BULLETIN 35 -Does God Exist?
This discussion has arisen due to being asked by some person to provide an answer to this important question.
Why do people bring up the existence of God, and then they can't prove if he is real? A similar question is"Why do people believe in God, and what is their proof of his existence? My reply follows: People are entirely familiar with the worldly here and now. But the spiritual side of our existence is a complete mystery to many due to the necessity to develop other unusual skills, strongly, for its understanding and some are not ready for that. And that's where it is very tricky as you get outside your normal dimension, mostly by choice. Even when we are able to form a relationship with God it is difficult to be on top of it as God has ways very different to humans and communication is not always satisfactory for us, like dreams. The only acceptable way is to develop faith, which seems strange to many. The individual may get some encouragement from a believer, but they have to locate proof of God within themselves. 'Be still and know that I am God'. It seems really essential to accomplish that and God usually makes the initial moves in our spiritual development and that may be a surprise to some.
Another question is: 'How do you justify the existence of God when there isn't any proof? The reply is that there is ample proof of God's existence. Coming from the Bible many writers came to similar conclusions, and some were/are martyrs in their beliefs .Then there is the testimony of Moses, and of Jesus Christ yet they lived centuries apart, being the instigators of world wide Monotheistic religions. Finally we have millions of believers who through their personal experiences of attunement, testify to their dynamic relationship with God. Some are private in their beliefs. A relationship with God has to be developed. We understand that God does provide the necessary proof of his existence to believers, but it's not available to the sceptical or cynical unless like Paul there is a conversion.
So wishing for worldly proof about God's existence to arise somehow is really no option whatsoever. Through being Christians we are required to talk to non-believers whenever possible. It is a difficult task facing those with little comprehension. Perhaps some of this discussion may refresh your ideas and raise your confidence. Your mission is so important, it is obedience and love of God.
Amen
